The first pictures of the new specification Formula Ford car, the SC2007,
have been released. The car is now in testing, as Swift Cooper aims to return
to the top of the podium next season.
Chassis: The multi-tubular chassis is
constructed using the highest quality high tensile steel, fully TIG wielded to provide
maximum strength. Using finite element analysis to validate the chassis design
gives confidence of the safety structure and overall torsional stiffness.
Safety: The SC2007 easily satisfies all FIA, SCCA and MSA safety and technical requirements. The exceptional footwell
strength is enhanced by detachable honeycomb aluminium deformable nosebox. New
front lower suspension pick-ups are located outside the chassis structure to
enhance driver safety in the event of impact. A 2.5kg fire extinguisher system
plumbed into the cockpit and engine bay, a six point Willans harness and an FIA/SCCA/FT3
fuel cell complete the high safety specification.
Aerodynamics: Subtle design changes
to the chassis have allowed improvements to the bodywork, increasing the
efficiency of the airflow. A slightly raised nose with extended bodywork under
the front floor and hidden pick-up points contribute to smoother lines and a
dynamic and innovative new single seater look. A lower engine cover incorporates
symmetrical ducting for a diffused engine inlet and engine cooling whilst
reducing the frontal area by hiding the engines inlet components.
Suspension: All wishbones are wide
based, fabricated from narrow section oval tube and incorporate anti-intrusion
bars where necessary. Wheel hubs rotate in double row angular contact bearings
retained by lightweight cast aluminium uprights. Double adjustable aluminium
dampers are operated via pushrods actuated through bell cranks pivoting on
needle roller bearings front and rear. Anti-roll bar systems allow quick roll
stiffness changes, whilst the easy to adjust bell cranks allow wheel rate
alterations. Front and rear camber shim systems eliminate the need for track
realignment.
Gearbox: The highly reliable and race
proven Hewland LD200 gearbox is fitted as standard.
Braking System: Lightweight callipers
act on SWIFT rotors mounted to aluminium disc bells. Brake bias is cockpit
adjustable and the system is completed with aeroquip brakelines throughout.
Steering: The high ratio SWIFT rack
and pinion is operated via an 'apex' jointed adjustable column and 'D' style
steering wheel.
