About Swift Cooper
Swift Cooper is based at Castle Combe Circuit in Wiltshire, owned and operated by Alan Cooper.
Alan and his Brother, Martin setup Cooper Racing in Calne in 1984 after running their own cars in Cornwall. The team won their first championship at Castle Combe that year, and their first national championship with Antonio Armelin in 1985. In 1985 the team also produced their first Cooper Formula Ford. The team built on their success over the following years, and moved to their current address at Castle Combe in the early 90's. Cooper stopped manufacturing cars in 1992 to concentrate on running customer cars and Alan setup Castle Combe Racing School.
In the same period, Frank Bradley purchased the rights to manufacture the successful American Swift Formula Ford in the UK. Swift Cars was originally based in Norfolk. The company changed ownership on several occasions moving from Snetterton to Chesterfield. Swift achieved notable successes by winning the prestigious Formula Ford Festival in 1990 and the British Formula Ford Championship in 1992 and 1995. In 1996 Swift racing cars changed hands again and relocated to Plymouth, Devon.
During 1998 Swift racing cars found themselves in financial problems. After hearing that Swift was in trouble Alan Cooper made contact with the owners and eventually concluded the purchase of the Swift name assets, stocks & rights of the company from its owners in Plymouth. The new company combined the Swift name with the established & respected Cooper name to form Swift Cooper.
Swift continues to build new cars, provide support and spares to existing Swifts, and run Formula Ford cars both locally at Castle Combe and around the UK.
